Social Distortion's 3rd album made them a household name, but I think it's very overrated. I'm not a fan of country music, and this album has a heavy influence of that style, so of course I'm bias. There are a couple of catchy songs on here (Ball & Chain, Ring of Fire, So Far Away), but the rest of it is non-descriptive filler to me, or songs with promise go on too long, punctuated by weak instrumental breakdowns. Mike Ness's voice can sometimes be soothing, but overall I find it to be a little too soft and lacking personality, especially for a guy who largely speaks in first person. It's kind of cool to hear this thuggish style in punk rock, but the overall product just isn't very interesting.
