| 3.0 good | CrisStyles | July 24th 26 | I went into this album with a lot of reservations because Charles Wesley Godwin is one of my
favorite artists within modern country, but I knew based on the title of the album and the
singles I had heard that this would be heavily focused on religion. While I have no issue
with artists diving into religious themes, these days it can feel performative and
inauthentic, as others have mentioned. While Christian Name may not be the album I
necessarily wanted, one thing that can never be taken away from Charles Wesley Godwin is the
sincerity seeping through his music. It's an album that focuses on his journey in the
aftermath of losing his son back in 2024 and as a father myself, I can appreciate a lot of
the sentiments presented on here, even if I don't identify with the spiritual pieces. It may
not be my favorite of his by any stretch, but I can still appreciate the route he took on
Christian Name, which I normally wouldn't be able to say for others.
