With Soldiers of the Night, Vicious Rumors begin their superb course as a US heavy/power metal outfit. That being said, the album is partially plagued by a handful of mediocre songs and a latent, but perceivable incompatibility between the guitar playing of virtuoso Vinnie Moore and band founder Geoff Thorpe. It's really no wonder that Moore left the band after this album so as to pursuit a solo career, and that Vicious Rumors recorded their first magnum opus Digital Dictator by being, above anything else, a tight grip of a band.
