Thanks to collaborations, new member additions, and a humble amount of time away to dial-down on creating a solid record, "An Ending in Itself" manages to be Sleeping With Sirens best record to date. From the opener (title track), it's clear that there was a songwriting evolution within the ensemble, with little glistens like having a breather after the first chorus to accelerate to the second verse. It continues in the likes of 'Forever/Always', one of the ballads from the album that manages to evoke catchiness yet builds to a heavy bridge that doesn't feel out the blue. 'God in My Head' uses a 3/4 time signature and is one of the standout tracks, and 'Need You Here' has brilliant lead-guitar lines throughout. The whole album crescendos to 'Paralyzed', a straight-up metalcore piece that feels appropriate in terms of track placement and is easily the best song on the album. There's a notable quality dip after that one, until 'Looking Back at Me', which is a track no-doubt crafted by the new guitarist in the band (ex-The Word Alive), as it's a track that gradually evolves to a huge ending. No real notes on what could be done better here; Sleeping With Sirens should proceed normally now when working on their next album.
