The autotune is suffocating. He always utilized the microphone fuzz but the first 4 tracks… We get it, you did two songs
on Random Access Memories 13 years ago. How did you get
there? What happened to your initiative? I wonder if Nick is skipping this tour for a reason. There is nothing here that
would top any prior song on any previous album.

Everyone sounds so offended by the autotune. That’s fine, go ahead! Meanwhile, I enjoyed the album for what it was,
especially the songs “Liar’s Remorse” and “Tyrants of the Mellow Moon”.

What a tragedy and waste of a record. The musicianship is really something special and vast in its sonic palette, really huge sounding at times. And then we get Julian Casablancas. The songs have been butchered with his reliance on auto tune and it utterly decimates all the hard work put in with his band mates. It sounds like a mere afterthought. A crushing disappointment, an experiment that has gone completely awry.

I was just recovering from the vocals on 'Psycho Shit' when Casablancas rhymed "seven seas" and "rhinoceros". That was me done.

Everybody will point to the autotune as a key production lowlight here. It's a massive factor
in the sound of this, unfortunately for the worse at almost every turn. Many times, the
choices sound like the band sabotaging themselves. The cover and the lead single make no
sense with the theme of the rest of the album. Like, I thought it was gonna be more of an
"escape" album given those clues but to say this thing got stuck in neutral for 3/4 of the
running time would be an understatement. The only really good tracks are the two upbeat ones,
Going Shopping (which could have used less autotune) and "Lonely in the Future" which sounds
most like a classic Strokes song. Very clearly this album is trying to be The New Abnormal
Pt. 2 - that album had a lot going for it, mainly good songwriting, and an introspective vibe
and release date that corresponded with the COVID pandemic. It remains a great album but
sticks around for many because of the time it was released. This feels like a Julian thing as
opposed to a cohesive band effort. Remember, this album took SIX YEARS. If this is the best
that the Strokes as a collective has after all that time, it might be best to retire the band
as a unit. So many, especially in the music influencer community will try to play all of this
off as "oh, it's so deep, it needs repeated listens for it to really sink in." OR, is it
possible that the album is bad?
