Devin is probably my most listened to artist of all time. I can't even begin to count the number of times I've played Terria, Ocean Machine, Accelerated Evolution, ZTO, Ghost, etc. all the way through. I enjoy albums like Empath and Epicloud well enough, but I'm a bit over this bloated, winding, operatic sound where everything is dripping with chorus and 100 layers of strings and vocals. What I wouldn't give to just here some new rainy, moody, crunchy, and simple Deadhead-esque music from Dev again.

I've only listened to it once, and I don't think this is the sort of album that really shines in one listen, but I'm firmly in the "like it but don't love it" camp atm. Feels overlong and bloated and, for what is meant to be a concept album opera thing, it doesn't really seem to do any of the things a concept album or opera is meant to do. It's weirdly samey for something that's meant to take you on a journey. But if you love sonic maximalism all the time and loud orchestra noises, you'll love this. Personally I find Empath and Deconstruction, the two albums I'd liken this too the must, a lot better.

This won't win any people who aren't already familiar with Devy over. It's a mix of rDeconstruction esque bombastic heaviness, with a lot of Empath too. Part ambient, ala solar rfields, & some moments like Stained Hearts which take from the Addicted / Epicloud school of rDevy. Extremely over the top, & varied on the whole. Those who've listened to the live stream rversion whilst it was available will notice the orchestra and choirs are quieter in this rversion & less involved in general. It is a very very long record & a very fatiguing one at rtimes, courtesy of how layered, clustered and over the top some moments are. rThe bonus part, rall of the same tracks, just the orchestra & choir parts, aka the afterlife edition is an rinteresting addition, having skimmed it, I can't say it's something I'm going to listen to ragain.

It's the lyrical stylings of his Empath and Lightwork era but mixed with the instrumental cacophony of The Puzzle. I like! I'm a sucker for the big orchestral blasts that poke through the collage. Not going to be one of my gotos of his (or anyone's goto), in fact i find much of the second disc weak, but still an enjoyable experiment.

The second disc, "The Afterlife" is a much easier listen to get into it. Stripping back all of the noise for just the choir and orchestra, it sounds absolutely incredible. One of the better "Metal musician does an orchestra" productions.

There's a photo of Devin with Jay Leno's phone shoved up his ass. If you were to dial that number, this is what you'd hear.

Not really my cup of tea. I love Devin's music for the most part, but I'm more into the simplified stuff that isn't produced into oblivion (accelerated evolution, the new black etc.). This album has SO much going on its hard for me to even process. After one listen, it's definitely not bad, but certainly nothing special in my mind. I dont like the opera style vocals either.

the video for "The Big Snit" is hilarious and ridiculously cool, this album is shaping up to be breathtaking
