An evolution in their sound that was signaled by their previous album Urian. Der Brauch leans more into a post metal sound with slow and heavy riffs surrounded by atmospheric melody with a good amount of surprising moments. Production value is great with the addition of string sections and haunting guitar effects that let's the listener stew in a moody vibe.

the hirsch effekt have been creating their unique sound for over 15 years now, a style that's not easily defined, with their progressive metal, alt rock, and post-hardcore elements that come together for both a delicate and aggressive emotional journey. It's the first album in 2026 I put on repeat as soon as it was over. Long time fans will find this another brilliant addition to their catalogue, for new fans, this is a great place to start

The first few tracks of this record are a bit too slow for me, but the second half is some of the best material they've ever recorded. Everything from Der Doppelganger on is stellar.
