Experimentation can be a positive thing... when it works. STYE finds In Flames more fully incorporating the nu metal and electronic influences they'd been dabbling with on previous releases. So much so, that when compared to Reroute to Remain this almost seems like an entirely different band. The band's motivation for the direction change is moot, the important point is the end result, and here; it's not particularly good. The worst aspect is easily an added layer of contrivance in Anders Friden's vocal approach, which often reminds the listener of Jonathan Davis. The Davis resemblance isn't so much the problem as the fact that it sounds forced and unnatural. A bit like the album overall.

This is where In Flames really started to slip for me (and I'm sure more than a few other fans) and started their downward spiral. Whereas elements of the band's future style were bleeding through in bits of Clayman and more noticeably Reroute to Remain, they've taken the spotlight for Soundtrack. There are definitely some good tracks on here though, something that should still keep a fan happy after the last few records the band has put out. Still, there's something sad about this disc, and knowing that a little bit of In Flames seemed to end with it.

It isnt the best album from one of my favorite bands in metal...but it is a very solid CD. The best tracks were probably "the quiet place' and 'my sweet shadow," for me at least. Its worth listening to.

I consider this release as a 'push of boundaries' rather than a fall into 'mainstream'. Soundtrack to Your Escape will never be amongst my favourite In Flames albums but it contains shaped and much better tracks than Reroute to Remain. Recommendations: "The Quiet Place", "My Sweet Shadow", "Touch of Red".

Others were surprisingly generous with this one. The only enjoyment I got out of it was the ever popular My Sweet Shadow which is actually more pop to me than metal. I don't listen to this band for pop.

I'VE COME TO GIVE THIS POSITIVE FEEDBACK WATCH OUT OLD SCHOOL IN FLAME DIEHARDS!!So many old school in flames fans jumped to conclusions once IF started their now "infamous" more mainstream direction.If you ask me this Come Clarity and Reroute To Remain are how you do it RIGHT.After CC though I can agree they have nothing to offer as nothing grabs me AT ALL the past decade plus.Love the way they swirl the Gothenburg elements with modern keyboards of the more electronic variety versus the old style Gothenburg method.Anders is in top form yet a bit bizarre with that warbly effect he utilizes which at least makes it entertaining and unpredictable more I can say regarding now he's going power metal that style doesn't fit him one bit.I am in contrast to others who say they died after Colony/Clayman.They went in a different direction but made it organic which I dig when a band of this variety decides to go mainstream.Still each to their own.

It will be a given that - no matter how much the post-Clayman releases tend to irk you - there's something to like about even the newer In Flames albums. Their seventh studio record Soundtrack to Your Escape almost diminishes the melodeath influence which was prevalent on its predecessors (and Come Clarity) in favor of a more experimental approach, which borders on a mainstream level somewhat. Anders Friden's fry scream techniques aren't too grating on the ears, though his singing needs to be refined. As for the musicianship, it's a bit uninspired, though the simplistic riffage and chords definitely work for this one. The electronics are also a nice touch to some of the songs here, but that's really about it. How does the entire album fare overall? Soundtrack to Your Escape clearly has its moments of homogeneity, but the sound these Swedes deliver throughout isn't too shabby and may warrant a listen or even another.

This album is the best manifestation of the later In Flames sound, heavily synthed and sampled with crunching riffs offset by haunting, despairing melodies. It's innovative and experimental in its own way and truly beautiful.

Meh most songs are fillers tbh. With the album Anders uses more high pitched raspy screams and some eyebrow raisng clean vocals. The bass was good along with the drums but the guitars definitely were the disappointing factor of this album. Instead of guitar melodies there were industrial/synth effects that were being forced to be the melodic edge of the album... it failed to be the melodic part of the album. I mean, what happened to the guitar solos/melodies that put In Flames in their spot of the metal world? Songs worth mentioning are F(r)iend, The Quiet Place, My Sweet Shadow, Evil in a Closet, and Superhero of the Computer Rage.

This album is utterly amazing and I always find myself excited when any of these songs come up in my shuffle. All the songs are so powerful and full! This is my favorite In Flames album and my second is Reroute to Remain. Just before becoming a sellout mainstream band with Come Clarity (although not a completely bad album) they still have their old roots in most songs. From the brutal and intelligent song "F(R)iend" to the AMAZING "My Sweet Shadow" which is by far the most exciting song I have ever heard. I always find myself blasting my stereo when that song comes on. The only songs I find myself skipping are "Evil in a Closet" and "Borders and Shading" which don't really sound like In Flames songs...
Overall a SUPERB! album from one of my all-time favorite bands!

Good album, very close in my opinion to being a 3.5 rather than a 3
For me In Flames pulled this album off; at least there is originality in the melodies and instrumental department which should be credited more than it has been.

Despite the mediocre review I gave this album it has 3 very redeeming songs.
-Evil in a Closet

-My Sweet Shadow
Yes its a different style, but these are damn good songs if you ask me. Now the rest of the album remains fairly decent. Theres some other decent songs on there and theyrs some crap on there. I wouldn't dismiss it right away. Give it a listen, the bad is bearable and the good tracks on this album are pure excellence.

Despite the apparent 'selling out' I think the samples and electronic stuff used adds a great atmosphere that completely separates STYE from all the other nu-metal bands people compare this too.
Love the riffing here, especially on Like You Better Dead, Superhero Of The Computer Age, and Dial-595 escape.
