‘Windows in the cave: A poem for Matt Stephens’
O you Tantalus, what you have seen,
your godly ancestry,
and your photographs of Heaven.
They condemned you to repentance
for exposing heavenly knowledge
by removing all the tools but the ones of cavemen.
You’re in Hell, but you find
the windows in the cave
where an exasperated, reddened light
does its damndest to shine through.
Am I to wonder what this light was
before it mutated into a body with veins of chaos,
or is this our biological child?
It is the light you have seen and the light of our world,
darker by the day,
and so all the brighter.

Probably easier to let the chaos fly by and catch strays of understanding, but the 35 minute track's extra dosage of madness makes it all click. Somehow everything before that wasn't deranged enough, apparently.
