First impressions are that this is very boring and besides Bloodmoon, an easy worst album in the band's discog. Listening to AWLWLB after this really makes the cracks obvious. Closer is great tho.r(I was too harsh on first listen, the rhythm section carries this pretty hard and there's something to enjoy on each track here even if I would still rank it solidly near the bottom of their [stellar] discog)

I like the energy on the first 7 tracks, but I don't like the writing. It feels worn out, dulled. I like both the energy and the writing on the last 3 tracks, the closing track being a real winner. These sound familiar but have more flare to them. It's a joy to have the kings back, but for this one they hit their stride where they slowed down and committed to longer songs and the vocal variety that makes Bannon a staple.
