If a metal band would get a price for being the most melodic, it would be Insomnium. To be more specific, Sinc the Day It All Came Down, their second album. Heavy riffage and melodies last for almost an hour long, but never dissapoint. From the intro track, Nocturne, it's easy to hear the gloomy and sad atmosphere in it, and all the way untill the final track "Song of a forlorn son", it never disappears. Although the vocals could indeed variate sometimes, and the constantly melodies can grow tiresome, this album is still one of the best albums around.

Take present day Insomnium, add some girth and match that with fewer catchy hooks. Since the Day It All Came Down has some genuinely compelling moments that are held back by the prolonged stay that similarly plagued its predecessor. This, thankfully, holds up better and helps foster a healthy soil for the band's core sound.

Pretty much a perfect record. I can't find flaw. The only chink in the armor is that the production could be a tad better. Alas, the writing and atmosphere make up for it in spades.

Another Insomnium album, another fifty minutes of solid melodic death metal. Insomnium may as well be the definitive "one-trick pony" of melodeath, but their one trick is good enough to bear repeating. Their albums are still too samey and a bit too long--they're also as formulaic as 80's Metallicas', but they're similary as solid.

Insomnium are the best melodic death metal band of the 21st century is bar none. This and Above the weeping world are two of the best melodic albums of this century so far, if not the best. Get them albums now.

This album is melodic death metal at its best. They are similar to Opeth in the aspect that they switch from melodic death metal parts to clean, atmospheric, acoustic passages. Bereavement, Daughter of the Moon, and The Day it All Came Down are the best songs. This is a must-have for any fan of melodic death metal and it is very nice to see bands like this revitalizing the life of the genre.
