'Sandinista!' is the definitive Clash album because it captures why they were such a great band: their fearless and relentless innovation that treated music as a do-or-die mission with no time for a second thought.

How can you surpass the richness of one of the most revered double albums? Just release a triple album! All kinds of genre are at display here (dub reggae rockabilly ska funk rhythm'n'blues disco), but the band managed to retain its punk rock soul. This punk rock is on the move, open to the different urban sounds of its time, like a furious fanfare linking London, New York and Kingston. The topic was as many years ahead of its time as its sound, and that alone must be lauded, although not all tracks succeed at mashing up several genres. Also, it holds up quite well for a 2h30-long record, its diversity being its most important feature, the length only being an issue at scarce times.

One of the most punk things to do- after redefining what post punk/ska can consider a blueprint for genres to bend, this album when heard as 6 sides of EPs that throw many ideas out there. I think there are too many songs on here that makes it hard to remember but this album I still find quality and enjoyed as a 6 section piece of work.

A 36-song triple-LP with a duration of 144 minutes is undoubtedly a daunting proposal, but recollect that this is The Clash we're talking about -- yes, the same Clash who just a year prior had unleashed arguably the most brilliant double-LP of all time while making it sound like it went down without a hitch to boot. So also yes, the very same Clash that don't just modestly churn out 36 good-to-great tunes like no one's business, but do it with barely a lull in those 144 as well. Punky heritage is seldom visited here, most often taking on some form of experimental-ish dub-centric sparkly disco-rock that forays into any genre-combo imagined+yet-to-be-imagined at the time and kids-n-women vox/radio bits/unadulterated 'what the's to keep things lively. A shortage of 'hits' is a fair enough swap to behold that same ol' sharp-n-adamant Clash use their most excessive juncture to get weirder and funner than ever all the while allowing for much musical+textural exploration.
