Macklemore suffers from the same syndrome many "conscious" rappers of this day and age do - sounding too preachy while not being a top-notch lyricist (far from it). In the end, he salvages this record with a few awesome, visceral verses that compliment some quality Ryan Lewis beats.

Wow. After only one listen this record really jumped out at me. Definitely might change this to a 4.5 in the near future. And to tell the truth, I'm a pretentious dick who tends to put down and/or ignore most hip-hop. But this is seriously impressive, both in the lyrics and the production.
