significantly more aggressive than Throne of the Lunar Soul, with pared back symphonics and
an increase in dissonance, Apex Violator does a considerable amount to distinguish itself
from the record preceding it.
Make no mistake though - Valdrin continue to fire on all cylinders, and AV shows them
crossing the songwriting chops of Throne (as well as the production quality) with the
murkier, insidious take they showed on Effigy of Nightmares. The result is 5 tracks of
incredibly strong black metal with a slight symphonic bent and a standout vocal performance
by guitarist Carter Hicks
Might raise my rating as I give it more time, but Poison Soul Vents and Ignite the Murder
Shrine are worth the price of admission alone. very interested to see where they take the
sound next
edit: yeah bumped to 4.5, they really nailed it here. 30 minutes goes by so quick. gotta
shout out the vocal performance again because got dayum does hicks sound unhinged on here
