| 4.0 excellent | Nagrarok | April 28th 10 | It's quite heavy on Keith Emerson's keyboards, it doesn't feature Greg Lake's awe-inspiring voice enough, Carl Palmer never gets a real chance to shine except on Tank; yes, the debut from prog titants Emerson, Lake and Palmer is flawed in some senses. It is however also an excellent display of masterful musicianship, even if this comes in the form of bombast and (too) lengthy instrumental pieces. The main problem with Emerson, Lake and Palmer is that the balance sometimes isn't quite right, but as with many records in the genre, the virtuostic craftsmanship makes up for it. The Barbarian, Take a Pebble and the popular Lucky Man are all impressive, and any 70's prog fan has got to love this.

| 3.5 great | GamamJ | September 9th 20 | One of the first UK prog albums is a masterpiece combining classical and rock. All the guys are masters of their istrument, but drum and keyboard wizardry is especially present. My god! Last track sucks hard, but oh well.

| 4.0 excellent | Deadwing2112 | April 6th 20 | The debut offering from a legendary progressive rock outfit somewhat suggesting that the band alternatively be named Keith Emerson with Lake and Palmer. Keyboards here dominate the album and although performed exceptionally appear somewhat pretentious and overshadowing the other two members. Greg Lake's vocals are perfect yet oddly underused at the expense of lengthy electronic noodling. Carl Palmer shines on his drum solo halfway through Tank. The closer Lucky Man is clearly the hit single when egos dial down and a genuine "the music matters most" communal understanding is reached. Make no mistake, these are exceptional performers. And make no mistake, they know it also.

| 4.0 excellent | Rmazer | May 20th 19 | I'm a drummer so I'm legally required to give this a 4. Earth-shattering drums and synths make this a surprisingly well-done and spooky listen for its time, but once you are familiar with who plays on the record, it's not a surprise anymore that it's excellent.

| 4.0 excellent | kheman1317 | December 5th 18 | This eponymous debut album by ELP is undoubtedly a prog rock staple but it is far from being a perfect album. The 1st is very strong with tracks like "Take a Pebble" and "Knife Edge". The 2nd half feels quite weak as compared to the 1st despite Greg Lake and Carl Palmer showing off their skills and virtuosity in "The Three Fates" and "Tank". "Lucky Man" is an equally powerful acoustic ballad.

| 4.5 superb | TheIntruder | August 27th 15 | Emerson, Lake & Palmer is an excellent first album. It's fluent and beautiful, it has moody keyboards, memorable guitar lines, immaculate drumming and above all, a great vocal work by Lake. It features very strong compositions and a magnificent and inspired musicianship. Emerson takes the band music in his own hands on many occasions. Are his virtuoso skills that have become the defining factor on the band music. However, Lake and Palmer deserve also a prominent spot. This album is with Brain Salad Surgery the two best ELP studio works.
