Critical support here - sketchy history aside, Hate Forest releases an excellent record which obviously arises from the Russian invasion of Ukraine and lyrically focuses on that pro-defense sentiment.

This is like a single-edged sword: it has one purpose, and it does it very well. Simple, merciless black metal assault. And yeah, the song titles are definitely sending a certain message.

A strong showing of aggressive black metal with clear and compelling motivation. Its single-mindedness comes at the price of much latitude in creativity, meaning this release does little to stand out from the pack of similar-sounding projects. That said, its executed about as well as a straightforward kick to the face can be. 3.7/5.
