It feels like a continuation of Sky Void of Stars, albeit more proggy and way less hooky. The guitar work remains compelling despite Anders' departure, so I think they can safely go on. There's a couple more surprises here, like Wind of No Change's relative structural tightness despite the record's general tendency to drag, that sweet transition from Temporal to Departure Trails, and (finally!) a new song in Swedish (Efter Solen), which feels like a worthy successor to Vakaren. A solid record overall.

katatonia are at their best when the proggy elements and the anthemic elements are in perfect synergy. on this album they dropped the anthemic feel of 'sky void of stars' and 'dead end kings' and didn't replace it with anything so it feels really hollow and dull.
