buncha midgoods that goes on for too long

Catchy, but ultimately unfulfilling album. It goes for more of a pop-rock vibe than the pop-punk of Ocean Avenue, and there seems to be a sort of concept running throughout with the symphonic opening track and the 'Holly' character. However, neither of these elements are particularly well-executed. The violin is underused, too.

After breakthrough success with their everpopular album Ocean Avenue, it seemed as if Yellowcard were destined for something big. After a year or two of touring the guys found themselves back in the studio tossing around ideas. The result is the said album, Lights and Sounds. While there are many great tracks (lights and sounds, how i go, city of devils) on this album there are also many stinkers which ruin the album's flow. While many of these songs are as good or better than the songs on Ocean Avenue the lack of flow makes this a lesser album compared to the later. Still this is a decent album, and any fans of Ocean Avenue should definitley look into it, but if you weren't impressed by their previous work then you should probably pass on this one.

Really wanted to keep this at a 4 but I had to bump it down. Album is a hard 3.7, but I can?t give that. The entire second half of this album just isn't memorable at all. Even after hearing this album around 10 times. There isn?t a bad song here, but everything after Waiting Game always goes in one ear and out the other, though I still find them enjoyable while listening.

One of Yellowcard's more experimental efforts in theme, mood, and sound. Initially it might seem bland and not as fun as their other albums, but it's a bit underappreciated. It does run a tad too long, and the songs blend together toward the end, but with repeated listens it gets better. There are great songs here, but a majority of them don't feel as memorable as other Yellowcard songs. Unfortunately it does lack some direction and isn't quite the album that it could have been, but there are some brilliant and even beautiful moments here and there.

Darker, more mature lyrics. I still like ocean avenue album more so, but the production of the songs are solid, even though it lacks the sound of the acoustic violin in most of their songs.

i really dont see why people like this album. The lyrics are as bad as a BFMV cd and the instrumentation is the same as a good charlotte album. the only good songs on this is Lights and Sounds and City of Devils.

Yellowcard, in my opinion, is really a failed expectation for me. I tried to get into it, I really did- but it promises too much, and doesn't deliver. Plus, the sound that it has is the same as many other bands, except for the fact that these bands have done it much better. I'd advise that you check out those bands. As a starting point, I'd personally advise Taking Back Sunday, a favorite of mine, and a band that shows you what Yellowcard tries to be, but unfortunately, can't be.
