Very samey, uninteresting album. The only thing I could remember that how much I hated that echo effect on Halford's vocals.

Let's get this out of the way: this is one of the best metal albums of all-time. It even sounds metallic, and more so for it's time.rBinks was arguably the band's most technically skilled drummer, Tipton and K. K. belt out some of their best guitar work, and Halford shines as well. However, Sad Wings of Destiny just barely edges it out due to being more musically wholesome, among other things.rHaving said all that, you shouldn't miss this one: it's a metal essential.rPersonal Rating: 4.9 r

My fav. cd of all time its 1978 the world of metal needed something fresh to take it through punk priest helped alot and set the 80s on its way a very inportant metal album.

STAINED CLASS is a superb heavy metal album and easily one of Judas Priest's finest works. The production isn't as refined as
their later records, but the performances and songs are very impressive. STAINED CLASS was still very much in the progressive
metal mode with its somewhat more complex arrangements and dual guitar work. The songs are still darkly aggressive, but also
somewhat catchy without veering too far into pop-metal as they later would.
The center piece for this album in my mind is the unforgettable "Beyond The Realms Of Death", which is an oddly empowering song
given the suicidal tone of its lyrics. It also contains possibly the finest Glenn Tipton guitar solo to date. "Exciter" provides
an early prototype for the speed metal bands of the 80s with Les Binks' double bass drum intro and speedy rhythm guitar
figures. It has a very melodic and impressive solo section from K. K. and Glenn. Rob Halford shows off his higher vocal range
and spews out lyrics like "Fall to your knees and repent if you please!" Another fan favorite that Priest has resurrected for
2018 tour is the excellent "Saints In Hell", a lesser known classic that really shows off Halford's formidable range.

One of the best Priest records, I'll propably never decide whether I prefer this or 'Sad Wings of Destiny'. This one has much darker and melancholic tone and a bit of that prog rock edge combined with hints of what Priest would become in 80's. It's definitely their most diverse 70's record and I love the metallic-sounding guitar tone. Heavy melodic riffing contrasting with short bits of clean guitars which make tracks even darker -sounding and causing them to have bigger impact. All this combined with impressive Halford vocals create one of the finest heavy metal records ever recorded.

JP hit their peak on Stained Class, and they cut lose of all their 60's hard rock influences and instead pushed the envelope for heavy metal as a definitive genre. "Exciter" is an early and excellent look at the emerging speed metal and thrash metal genres and displays the talents of jazzy drummer Les Binks. It also features some of their darkest material and best lyrics to date, and Rob Halford's vocals are in top form with his best shrieks (check "Savage" and "Beyond The Realms of Death"). "White Heat Red Hot" and "Savage" feature underlying grooves to anchor their dense riffs, "Better by You Better Than me" is an impressive cover that outshines the original in every aspect, the title track is a riff monster with a progressive song structure, "Saints in Hells" is atmospheric not unlike Black Sabbath, "Beyond The Realms of Death" is perhaps their best song and a powerful half-ballad that would be the blueprint for heavy metal ballads, and "Heroes End" closes the album on a morbid note but encompasses excellent riffs and song structure. Stained Class is a historically significant masterpiece that is their best album, belongs in the top five heavy metal albums of all time, and may be one of the best guitar albums ever created.

A move forward toward what Judas Priest would sound like in the 80s. Music is pretty good and much better than on earlier attempts but the comically laughable vocals are what's bringing this album down(they are trending toward hearable, though and definitely better than in albums like Sad Wings or Rocka Rolla)...

Stained Class is Priest's strongest effort, along with Painkiller. However, they are both two entirely different albums. While Painkiller was a more insane, metallic-sounding album, Stained Class has a more chilled-out feel to it, but it's still fucking metal. Definitely an essential album for metalheads.
