3.1 good | Erwann S. STAFF | November 24th 20 | Boooo sellouts. Hum. Notwithstanding the selling out accusations - which always translate music fans' inner conservatism - this one does sound underwhelming compared to their crazy 80s stuff. Even worse, the album's predecessor, Independent Worm Saloon, clearly established itself as the band's best 90s material, and that is because it still retains a strong psych/noisy aesthetic on top of adding a newfound stoner persona. This one got nothing on it. It's kind of psychy, kind of noisy alt rock. Kind of alright.

3.5 great | GoldenGuy444 | March 24th 20 | This is absolutely nuts and all over the place, but I really enjoy most of it. "Pepper", "Cough Syrup" and "Jingle of a Dog's Collar" are all fantastic.

1.5 very poor | Theherdmaster | May 29th 14 | I liked 'Pepper' a lot, but otherwise I thought this album was awful and really hard to listen to.

2.0 poor | DecomposingHorse | September 19th 13 | Sub-par on all sorts of levels--with or without its outstanding lack of originality. It reeks of material that has either been stolen or recycled from what sounds like street hip-hop artists, Beck, and even the Surfers' earlier (and monstrously more appealing) work.
The 90s did not treat the Surfers well in many regards; the one actual positive that I can think of is that they received greater recognition, albeit through a whole decade of displaying heavily uninspired money-and-safety-seeking musicianship.
I suppose all the money that was exchanged for drugs over time would indeed eventually leave not only Gibby, but everyone in the Butthole Surfers in a questionable state, so the change was inevitable. The 2000s were even worse in some ways, despite there being only one album with new content on it released in that time.

4.0 excellent | Splatch | May 14th 10 | Pepper and Jingle of a Dog's Collar are my favorite in this album, with The Lord is a Monkey being my second favorite. It's a very drug driven album, but they ended up coming up with some innovative songs.
