In my experience it feels like hip hop and rap has these 5-10 year cycles where it peaks and valleys in those intervals and it sure feels like we are at the peak in 2025. After his last release, it is no surprise that McKinley Dixon is part of this truly amazing year of hip hop. The jazz elements are widely covered and continue to be some of, if not the best in the game. Dixon provides a great mix of conscious, storytelling and introspective rapping and it all just gels so naturally. Mix in some fun and aurally diverse guest spots and it becomes a winning recipe. Favorite moments are the bass/sax work on "Sugar Water", the unique playful vibe on "Crooked Stick", the brightness of "Run, Run, Run, Pt. II", the grooves of "All the Loved Ones...", and the beautiful flute rap interplay in the title track. As someone who joined this artist on their previous LP I am very excited to check out the rest of the back catalog.

Dixon's jazzy abstract conscious rap once again proves to be a winner, thanks to a clean af production that help both the music, the features, and Dixon's vocals to be just so fucking charming.
