| 4.5 superb | Plutonio | March 28th 10 | Epic, claustrophobic and avant-garde, Azure Emote's electronicized death metal album impresses on nearly all counts. But some of the death metal sects are a tad off, awkward pig squeals and such feel haphazard. But the textural nuances are enough to make this album somewhat enjoyable, let alone the creative use of disco, acoustic, and electronic music throughout.

| 0.0 | Bitchfork | May 7th 10 | Azure Emote is determined to produce disco-tinged death metal that is worth your while. And while Chronicles of an Aging Mammal is already a great release, it's obvious to see that Azure Emote have a few more tricks up their sleeve, if not a few lessons to learn as well. For starters, tracks like "Complex 25" perpetutate the flaws that hinder artists like Sigh so much: jumpy juxtaposition and lack of a unifying theme. Rather than sounding like a complete thought, tracks like these are like sentence fragments, easily fixed and unforgivable flaws. Other flaws relate to the album's length (too long) and the poor integration of some of its elements, particularly ambience. Otherwise, Chronicles of an Aging Mammal is an eclectic release with such gems as "Clarity Thru Apathy" for their (too) small audience.
