| 2.0 poor | DarkNoctus | April 24th 25 | my tolerance for cheese is high (especially as a fan of ghost's last few records) but frankly this album is ridiculous. it really does feel like a cut and paste job of every cheesy 80's hard rock tune without the addition of any interesting elements or more crutially contrast. every song on this album without exception has at least one extremely annoying thing about it that completely ruins it, be it an annoying vocal refrain or a baffling instrumental choice (why is the cowbell in umbra twice the volume of everything else dude). pacing wise all the songs feel like they're building tension to absolutely no payoff and every time you think a track is going somewhere it does something baffling or annoying that kills it. without reservation this is ghost's worst album and it's by a pretty significant margin.

| 2.0 poor | Deadwing42 | April 25th 25 | In my youth, I always wondered what it would be
like to see a small band blow up and become
legendary. I felt envy for the dads I knew that got
to see Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin at
a dive bar. My chance for this experience seemed to
emerge when I saw Ghost perform an
uncrowded 2pm set at Lollapalooza; now I see them
daily, on billboards over my city during
my dismal morning commute-- I suppose being
plastered on a billboard counts as reaching
legendary status? Rather than said advertisement
triggering excitement, as I might once have
expected, it felt more like a nagging reminder that
I might as well try and sit through
their new music. Obviously, Ghost has always been a
novelty act, but the whole concoction
was, at one time, interesting, fresh, and good
enough to believe they might evolve into
something really special. But, since Meliora, the
returns have diminished exponentially from
album to album. Skeleta sees the schtick wear
precariously thin. This is unchallenging
music, completely lacking any element of subversion
that might make such an act interesting.
I didn't need to listen to this to have already
heard it, and it will satisfy the hordes
that find this aspect to be a positive quality
rather than an utterly disqualifying sign of
sub-mediocrity.

| 2.0 poor | migueldemolina | April 25th 25 | I don't know dude. I enjoyed prequelle, i liked impera, but this is just fucking annoying to listen to. Some songs here feel like they were carefully manufactured in a lab to test my patience. Cenotah into Missilia Amori might be the worst continuous 9 minutes of music i listened to this year, what on earth were they thinking

| 4.0 excellent | joshuainsole93 | April 26th 25 | Addictive and a lot of fun. Continues the trajectory of the last few albums with the 80s worship. It's clearly not for everyone, but if it clicks for you, it'll really click.

| 4.0 excellent | cageofman | April 28th 25 | The criticisms are just, i can understand, it definitely feels like their most unapologetic rcommercial straight forward release, but i am not after 'challenging music' when it comes to rGhost - they have never ever been a challenging music band. Whilst its all been "done before", rits hard to pinpoint where precislely in such a satisfying way. It still is very Ghost sounding ralbum even if has the sounds of other bands. Even in the early days i always felt Ghost had a rvery Ozzy (Zakk rWylde era) feel to them. I sort of like the band even more with the overt 80s homage, to be rhonest i was the other way around to most, and thought when they were trying to be taken as a rmore serious legit band without this angle as the time to cringe. Better to embrace the rcheesiness for mine!rBut thats just it, its cheesy but somehow isn't at the same time, I feel it eventually transcends rthe cheese and just becomes cool 80's rock sounding tunes with a modern twang. rAll the songs grew on me quite a lot, and in the end its just if you decide to go with it or not. rI can totally understand those who choose not too, in particular older fans who had a different rfeeling on what this band should be or where it should go.rBut for what it is, I don't care what love rockets are, its a metaphor dude. Its a fun album, rcreates some cool moods and feels. rThe songs I can do without are 'guiding lights' (the weakest track for mine) and probably r'satanized' funnily enough. rThe rest are really quite good in their own way. 'De Profundis Borealis' as an early rfavourite.

| 2.0 poor | jmal00 | April 25th 25 | There stood the fence that penned me in when I was younger. This was the house where we all stayed. There was a tree
we used to hang out under. This was the place where I played. But now that's gone so I have to wonder is it worth the
price we pay? A long range test has put us under and made us go away, go away...

| 2.5 average | Helvetesdorr | April 25th 25 | Nothing wrong with a bit of 80s homage, but this straight up crosses into parody territory and
forgets to actually bring the hooks with the sound. Satanized and Umbra are super simple, but at
least they are kinda catchy, everything else just puts me to sleep.

| 2.5 average | RaylanCrowder | June 12th 25 | Umbra is the only interesting song on here. Slight improvement overall from Impera but not
by much. Prequelle was the last record with great hooks, this is just a poor pastiche of pop
metal much like Impera

| 3.0 good | JDubb | May 4th 25 | Not my favorite Ghost album, but it is good. ...perhaps with more listens great. The
influences are pretty apparent in select tracks. And much of the heavier edges have been
rubbed off in the production. The tracklist flows as a whole; although is not as varied as
other albums. Unique tracks are either missing or less effective - for better (e.g.,
Prequelle type instrumentals, Meliiora balladry [He Is]) or for worse (Impera's
eccentricities [Twenties]). That said, this album is an enjoyable listen and a grower.

| 2.0 poor | pyroflare77 | April 26th 25 | Tobias should stick to EPs if he's only capable of writing singles.
Bump |
| 3.0 good | Keira | April 26th 25 | A bit of a disappointment with a few songs I'll probably revisit. A lot of the songs just don't feel like they're part of the Ghost universe really, more like Tobias just decided to do an 80s album with the Ghost gimmick removed. The singles and tracks like Umbra and maybe Marks of the Evil one are the only ones I'll probably come back to. Guiding Lights and Missilia Amori are some of the worst tracks they've ever made.
