Grima do a really great job of creating an ominous, approaching haunting folksy atmospheric black metal sound on 'Nightside' driven by the use of the bayan, chilling vocals and guitar leads that seem to navigate the listener through the darkness. The bayan (accordion) use is the most unique aspect of this album and its singular presence is enough to really inject a new feel into atmospheric black metal. It really does pair well with the melodic black metal base turning it into something grander. Sometimes it feels a bit samey but at 49 minutes the strengths here outweigh that. 'Flight of the Silver Storm' summarizes what the record does very well and 'Beyond the Dark Horizon' is another standout.
