This album is insanely evil sounding coming from 1986. We're talking modern day avant-garde metal without the screaming distortion. The bass is nasty, the keys are haunting, the operatic vocals (honestly, a perfect fit here) are sung in opposition to any semblance of melody that isn't also playing outside the key center. It sounds like it would be a mess and just noise, but there are melodic motifs resonating throughout the tracks and a very deliberate vision being enacted. Like their namesake implies, this album is one of few instances of music I've heard that legitimately sounds Lovecraftian in execution.
