On their Mercury Records debut "Habits," Utah based buzz band Neon Trees teeters on the edge of alternative, pop, and dance rock, and balances there with complete finesse, producing the most appealing, well done debut we've heard from a new band in a long time. Singer Tyler Glenn calls their sound "post punk soul" and while modern rock bands like the Killers, the Strokes, Bloc Party and the Bravery make for clear comparisons, influences from the likes of Bruce Springsteen and even godfather of soul James Brown are hard to miss. Usually music that's hard to pigeonhole into a genre is esoteric to the masses, but make no mistake," Habits" is thoroughly appealing with 100% mainstream potential.
Standout tracks include first single “Animal" and “1983” which both take on a very up tempo melody, perhaps what Metro Station WISHES they were. Other songs on the album range from guitar driven rock to slower jazzy pop. For those who like to be the first on the bandwagon of a a band about to break, Neon Trees is your ticket... check this band out.
