Strike that, the opening 2 songs are great but most of this just doesn?t quite work. Decent build ups, and I?m happy she wants a lighter and brighter sound, but the build ups rarely pay off as much as they should and she doesn?t really bring anything new, particularly interesting, or any energy. rNot that every artist needs to do that, of course, but this is like actual club music and it?s so?sleepy. It?s not chill *enough* (except for Ballad, which is lovely). And never manages to reach any psychedelic or drug-boosted highs you?d see in raves. It sits firmly outside unable to deliver or commit. Someone said this sounds like a generic YouTube chill out club playlist, and well I hate to say it, but that?s not too far off imo.

I generally like progressive electronic music. The swaying builds and the dynamic use of synthesizers is always interesting. However much like all of Kelly Lee Owens music, there is not a lot of great and interesting ideas be presented. For a progressive house and trance record we get very basic and traditional ideas in these spaces. I never come off this album feeling like I gained anything from listening. The ideas are pretty and it?s okay when it?s on, I just don?t get anything out of this album.

3.0 gooddidnt ask to be staff, was made staff anyway, then got demoted for not doing staff stuff | October 21st 24

Somehow dancey where it also is too shy for the dancefloor, and at once ambient and timid, where it provides not enough space to breathe amid the dancing. Not sure what this intimate private disco vibe really is, but it leaves only part of me satisfied.

After the more subdued Lp.8 (which wasn't her eighth studio album), Owens makes a U-turn and clears out the bouncier territories of her soundscape. If prog house/trance replace downtempo, her hushed-full ambientism still exists to some extent. Would have wished she went full banger, as Dreamstate feels stretched between two conflictual visions.
