Constant band-related drama aside, I thought this was a well-done metalcore record. There's nothing groundbreaking on display, but it has a lot of energy and I think it's refreshing to hear a more "classic" sound amid all the nu-core coming out these days.

Singles are good burden is really good, riffs are killer but cleans and repetitiveness kinda slow it down. Overall it?s not bad.

Gonna be as unobjective as possible, don't care, shit human, shouldn't be welcomed back into the music world at all. Should've given up after powerless anyways. Not gonna listen to this. It's a 1 off principle alone.

It's hard to not address the elephant in the room; the album art on "Through Storms Ahead" is confusing. Is the flame supposed to be there to signal that they're starting anew? What are those rock things in the sky?rTruth be told, the flame might be emblematic of what's really left of this band. They've got new members (mostly) this time around, writing music that does fit the pattern of how an As I Lay Dying song would go - yet lacking any soul. This all feels like stock music that's supposed to sound akin to AILD, that despite the talented musicians within the mix, no doubt most of this could've been written in a day or two within studio time. Catchiness in music is a tough thing to nail, and sadly no song in "Through Storms Ahead", perhaps save for 'The Cave We Fear to Enter', really has the needed catchiness to warrant repeat track listens.

formulaic and predictable. if you can't get enough of 2000s era metalcore, its still well executed with fast paced melodic riffs to carry the songs. just don't expect anything more.

liberal use of vocal effects to make tim sound deathier and it is cringe, along with uber poppy ryan neff cleans making them sound like linkin park, definitely a muscular man titties album, yet the melodies shine decently throughout the mccore tropes and it is about as good as it is bad
