New Toby Driver album in his Ballads series is a beautiful blend of gothic-tinged-art-rock and wonderfully written chamber rock pieces. It?s exciting to have Maudlin alumni, Samuel Gutterman on drums and Terran Olsen on flute, along with Alora Crucible synthweaver, Ana Cristina Pérez Ochoa on keyboards and vocals. ?Raven? is Toby?s best solo work since his Tzadik classic, ?Library Loft?. ?Raven? excites me, along with his recent Alora Crucible LP, to hear Kayo Dot?s upcoming album, which includes the entire cast of ?Choirs of the Eye?. It?s an exciting time to be a fan of Driver?s work.

Toby Driver in singer/songwriter mode. I thought this was sublime, atmospheric and very interesting all around. Wish I could understand more of the lyrics, but oh well.
