Dissonant death metal is one of those genres where albums usually take a decent amount of time to digest and to 'stick'. 'Exhaust' is an exception to that rule as Pyrrhon stirs mathcore, noise rock and prog/avant-garde musings into the pot with that dissonant death metal base. From the first riff in 'Not Going to Mars' the album sets you out on an adventure that feels as disturbing as it does safe with the band to guide you. Doug Moore is one of the more interesting and technically solid metal vocalists in the game right now mixing harrowing screams with low-end gurgling grunts to near perfection (SEE THEM LIVE!). The album meanders through a landscape featuring jarring dissonant guitar riffs parallel to sections that feel like an homage to John Zorn's jazz breakdowns but very importantly never feels directionless. 'Strange Pains', "Not Going to Mars', 'Out of Gas' and 'Stress Fractures' are some standout choices but this album feels best digested whole.

Exhausted is the first I'm not exhausted (lol) after listening to a Pyrrhon record. This time their face-melting mathcore-tinged dissodeath turns into a face-melting dissodeath-tinged noisy mathcore, which seems to better suit the band's songwriting.

A solid death metal and avant-garde metal album that is kind of fun while it?s on, but utterly forgettable once it?s over. The more avant-garde bits are much better than the more death metal bits, but it?s just not the most impressive album out there when it?s comes to these genres. But, still it is blistering and heady leaving you with a sense of gratitude once you are done listening to it.

This my was first introduction to this band, and I am impressed. Technical Death metal skills mixed together with Converge/Dillinger Escape Plan. Hard hitting and dissonant but unlike other dissonant death metal bands such as Ulcerate, and while still a very chaotic, noisy album, I found it easy to digest and easy to enjoy
