Does it do anything as grand or powerful as their best work? Or even anything new? No. But dammit, I can't help it. I love the journey of a Godspeed song, no matter how many times the phrase "canned uplift" drifts across my mind.

I am always hyped for a new GY!BE release but this one just didn?t do it for me. I was concerned by the prior-released single Grey Rubble - Green Shoots (to the point to where I screw up the title of it nearly every time I talk about it. It was short for their standards and ultimately went nowhere. And unfortunately that is the theme for this release. Outside of the actually quite incredible track Baby?s in a Thundercloud (which, I would consider the only highlight here), I couldn?t tell one track from the next. Monotonous and drony only begin to cover this. It?s like if you stretched out the droning songs from Allelujah (the real lowlights of that album) out to full-album length status. I may give it another listen sometime to see if things change but this one is neck and neck with Luciferian Towers as weakest GY!BE album, far and away. Sometimes I feel like people are looking at the message here and praising that aspect while overlooking the very boring music. It sounds like GY!BE-lite or an anemic GY!BE

Aims for a sense of stoic and stubborn faded beauty
but really what's fading here is the glint in every
Godspeed fan's eye as they realize they have to
contend with another fitful release in which their
aging heroes continue to suffocate an ever-creakier
skeleton with ill-fitting clothes. There are some
great moments and there are some great moments
sabotaged by the band's over reliance on anthemic
drums+canned uplift. There's clearly a darker and more
challenging album within the shaggier and more
indulgent big picture presented here but these dudes'
refusal to leave any hanging tension unresolved
continues to sack their post-hiatus output with a
sense of plodding diminishing returns.
Edit: Raindrops is so much worse than I realized that
I'm dropping this a half point, maybe the worst track
of the band's career

First half continues Pee of the God's melodicism, while the second one focuses more on drony recordings, the whole lot always being propelled by their martial drums and guitars. Godspeed godspeedin', and nothing else really.
