Floating Points is back after releasing one of the greatest jazz and electronic fusion records of all time. So it was always enthralling to think about what he would do next. Well that next album is out and Floating Points has gone back to basics by creating a simple tech house and minimal techno record. All the progression and elements that Floating Points has been known for are here with the looping and progressing modular synth work. Plus his signature way of bringing in and taking out other sounds and textures is so welcomed here. This album just flows from start to finish. Definitely a must listen if you love simple but exciting and hypnotic techno and/or house music.

Cascade is more two EPs smashed one after another than a bona fide "album". The first half is dedicated to sweaty club-ready bangers, while the second half opts for a subtler and wider soundscape (IDM, garage, and breakbeat all take their fair share). Both sides are great, but the record's flow and cohesion could have been greatly enhanced by better sequencing of the tracks.
