Some of the greatest electronic music ever produced, versatile, lengthy, and incredibly experimental electronic. Clocking in at almost 2 hours, it somehow manages to never drag as a whole, always offering something new in each song and something different. May it be from the chopped up and quickly paced songs, to the piano interludes. Richard James offers incredible innovation, something cutting edge, beautiful, and important.

A genuinely captivating work filled with enough diversity and engaging material to last a listener a lifetime, but unfortunately this is also dotted with lots of less intriguing music as well. Organization is relatively poor for the most part too, with lots of tracks feeling misplaced or even completely unnecessary. In spite of all of these shortcomings though, the album remains phenomenal oas a whole.

This album doesn't get the respect it deserves. This is a true masterpiece of IDM, and one of the best double albums I have ever heard. There isn't a dull moment, and tracks like Cock V10, Mount St. Michael, and Vordhosbn are absolutely brilliant.

In the same boat as many others, a 4.3 to me that can?t be rounded up because it took me TWO deep goes to even finish the thing, an hour and forty even it fits for a project exploring this deep it does make the listen a serious odyssey

Aphex Twin now sounds like every other acid rocker in the scene, but still manages to come out on top. Mindfuckery and beautiful piano parts make this an enjoyable listen, though not as good as earlier releases. 7.8/10

problems: 30 fucking songs. Lots of random, semi-filler. Occasional blehness.
pros: Amazing experimental shit, beautiful piano pieces, aphex twin's breakbeat crazyness, and the rest.
If there were less random pieces and if this record was condensced a bit, it really could have been a classic. Excellent album overall.

drukQs is a logical step forward, in my opinion. It shows definite growth and leanings towards music like John Cage or even Nancarrow made. Songs like Avril 14th and Father are gorgeous, and the faster electronic songs are as good as anything else released by Aphex Twin.

I have read a lot of negative reviews about Drukqs, and I can understand why. I used to think the same way about this album. It is an album of stark contrast, far beyond anything else Richard D. James has done. One song will consist of minimalistic piano pieces, the next will be hard drum n' bass, and the next will be dark ambient. It's not an easy album to get used to, but, given time and an open mind, Drukqs will reveal itself to be perfected by its contrast. At first it seems like Drukqs is just a bunch of random songs assembled into a two disk set, but it is really far from the truth. Drukqs is a masterpiece of experimental electronica, and is one of James' best albums, and is probably my favorite.
