Streetlight's cover album is better than most ska band's studio albums

The exuberance feels spur-of-the-moment, but each Streetlight release has spent a good while in the incubator under Tomas Kalnoky's care. He and the rest of the ska punk outfit, arguably the most exciting and unique on the scene today, love to tease fans with delayed releases and several years between LPs. So some skepticism could be in order as the band's efforts are now focused on a 99 song, 8 album project of cover songs. Yes, it could be a while until we get original tunes from Kalnoky's pen, but beggars can't be choosers. Besides, it's hard to dislike the project's first installment, as the band's signature frenzy makes for innovative and fun remakes. In particular check out their chaotic take on Radiohead's "Just", a friendlier version of Bad Religion's "Skyscraper", and damn clever retooling of Postal Service hit "Such Great Heights".

Yes, it's a cover album. It's also a great album that you should listen to and enjoy.

good music, great hornplay as I expect from Streetlight. Some new material would be cool, but this is still much MUCH better than nothing. I was especially pleased that they put their cover of Linoleum by NOFX on this.

It sounds like Streetlight Manifesto. Some of the sections on this album blow my mind with how catchy it gets, and some songs are real winners like Skyscraper and Red Rubber ball. Aside from the really memorable tracks, the album is still excellent. It may not be original material, but it sure as hell feels like it.

A great ska-ification of fantastic punk songs, what isn't there to love? Yeah, it can't really stand up to original material... but seriously guys, this is a cover album; most cover albums are absolute s**t! Definitely worth checking out for any ska fan. 3.8/5

Way too hit-or-miss. Some really impressive covers here ("Me And Julio", "Linoleum" and "Such Great Heights" come to mind), but others are, quite frankly, too bland.

Excellent musician ship as always. I don't think there's a single song which is just bad, everybody has their one song they don't like. It really depends on your taste in music, and this album displays a pretty big variety of styles. It lacks the originality that Everything Goes Numb or Somewhere In Between had. But I applaud streetlight on presenting all these covers so well. That's hard to do.

Some of the covers are forgettable, and they absolutely demolished They Provide the Paint. But others (like Just, Me and Julio, and especially Such Great Heights) are Streetlight caliber stuff in disguise.
