I imagine this is what Katatonia albums sound like about 40% into the songwriting process.

Aside from the waaaay overproduced vocals, it is actually not bad.

It's a transitional record for sure. Ironically the quieter songs are the best, like November Dust and Velvet Chains. It almost sounds ethereal wave-ish kind of? It definitely has some promise, but they don't commit to it. It's fine as it is, but I think the album after this is gonna be more important in terms of their progression for the future.

Excellent song writing, great guitar hooks and leads, with dynamic vocals. Recommend songs "Novembers Dust", "Charcoal Sky", and "Shining". Really not a bad song on here, but it is a lot more accessible than any other Swallow the Sun record.

This is not what i want from Swallow the sun. Overall the albums okay for what it is a poppy catchy album from them. Its diet take away Swallow the sun, its a bit shit but it does the job if you have a craving and dont want to put in the effort of a full experience

i admire the band for trying something different but this really aint it. the production is so unflattering, flat, brickwalled and compressed to the point where there's no human touch left in the mix. mikko's vocals are so overproduced to the point it sounds like post malone in places - some of the sloppy pitch correction made me laugh at points. i don't mind the concept of going more streamlined and accessible but it means you have fewer elements to rely on and everything remaining has to be top tier - this is where the band failed. writing songs relying on hooks with a vocalist that just cannot do hooks kills any momentum these songs had. pity.

my fav albums of this band are the early ones and even i have to admit that this is an improvement on the lame previous two albums who just felt like plotting along going through the death doom motions. this is refreshing even if i dont like how they produced the vocals and drums.
