less overtly metallic and more disgusting than Mestarin Kynsi, Muuntautuja dials back the
psychedelia for a more oppressive, unsettling atmosphere. how you end up feeling about it
will probably depend a bit on whether you are willing to let their compositions fully
embrace you as a cohesive whole - it's less individually digestible than Kynsi but the
bigger picture leaves an even stronger impression

I have never really been sold on this band, but I have to say this new album from the psychedelic black metal outfit shines so bright in its grimmy and rusty sound. ?Muuntautuja? sounds like the distant horror of a haunted asylum. The use of psychedelic drones and tones really adds a lot of nuance and depth.

The Pazuzus go for a more industrial avant-black soundscape on Muuntautuja, an approach that works wonders at oppressing you in its first half, while the second half somewhat returns to the psychedelism the band has accustomed us to. Either way, they once again prove they're one of the most interesting extreme metal bands out there.
