4.0 excellent | JoshieG | August 2nd 24 | Wow. I didn’t think Billy had it in him. This record has some of the most inspired passages of music and riffs from the
band in years, more specifically since 2012’s Oceania. Edin is such a powerhouse opener, with heavy guitar interplay not
heard in quite some time. It is to be noted that this is certainly a ‘body of work’, ergo there are no stand out singles and
the record as a whole takes a more wavering, progressive approach. It’s not an instantly catchy or even accessible
record but after hearing years of complete dirge, this has been the most exciting record Billy has put out since James
and Jimmy have rejoined.
It’s a little quantised at parts which I feel holds Jimmy back at times - there could certainly be more jazz infused fills to
propel the music - and Billy’s vocals are lacking grit again but alas, props to all of them for creating something that has
an unpredictable nature to it. And to me, the unknown, be it objectively bad or good, is exactly what the Pumpkins are
all about. Great stuff.

4.0 excellent | StrizzMatik | August 2nd 24 | Roughly 5 bad albums worth of material after reuniting with most
of the original lineup, Smashing Pumpkins are well and truly back
this time around, with an album full of dynamic progressive
songwriting and most importantly, riffs for days. Is it up to the
snuff of the classics? No. Is it solidly better than anything
else in the SP name that Billy Corgan has done in 20 years? Fuck
yes.

4.5 superb | resident sputbirb with fancy hat | September 2nd 24 | incredible how they managed to reach a new career high so late into their lifespan. never expected that, especially from what is "supposed" to be a washed 90s rock band.

3.0 good | lz41 | August 11th 24 | On which Corgan accepts defeat on his synth and electro projects and delivers a straight-ahead, focused hard rock album (with a couple of dragging power ballads). Unexpectedly, we have a 2024 Smashing Pumpkins album with numerous tracks worth the repeat listens in 'Edin', 'War Dreams of Itself', 'Goeth the Fall' and '999'

2.0 poor | Bigwill2k | August 10th 24 | I know his clean singing voice has always been an
acquired taste but it doesn't even have the
conviction anymore. The gutless vocals lack energy
and spirit, replaced by flaccid emo. I quite like
the
metallic crunch of the guitar, but the
instrumentals are too rigid to rock, drums sound
paper thin and
soulless (which is incredible they have the nerve
to do that to
a real character like Jimmy Chamberlain) The
overall mix
clips your speakers and it sounds trashy and
fuzzy. I'd rather listen to the classics than let
the last 2 decades lower my expectations so much
that I'd actually enjoy this. Just another album
to forget and pretend never happened.

4.0 excellent | Wructy | August 3rd 24 | When I read the announcement for this, I was like ?oh boy here we go again.? I?ve been having a blast listening to this today. This rules, I did not see this coming at all.

3.5 great | tommyhoover64 | August 2nd 24 | the guitars are back, the synths are non-existent, the riffs are punishing (just wish there were more of them)!

3.5 great | StormChaser | August 2nd 24 | havent listened to anything by this band after the 90s, but the first song on here sounds
nice
update: the whole album sounds pretty good and not at all obnoxious, looks like I waited for
the right one to listen to

4.0 excellent | Deadwing42 | July 25th 24 | I take it as a great sign that they are dropping this more or less as a surprise out of nowhere. There's usually such pretentious promotion and build up for SP albums. I am hoping the raw, off the cuff nature of it translates to the music.
