5.0 classic | BallsToTheWall | October 2nd 24 | The capacity of human intelligence seems to limit the capabilities to expand upon any possible creative aptitudes. Indeed, if one cannot even notice the facets that the ingenuities around him are comprised of, how can he be expected to fashion a beast of his own? This inveterate sense of constraint is a great blow to the veracity of mankind?s abilities. It restrains us and holds our minds to the ground below, averting any possibility of rising above ourselves to something greater; something not fathomed by the conventional mind. This concept of seeking to go beyond one?s self, known as ?transcendence?, is essentially a gateway to unlocking pieces of ourselves that can lead to some of the most elaborate and significant creations of our world. For many, this quest to transcend and form creations that were once considered unthinkable and overwhelming consumes life. Certainly it is rare to find such people, but when they are found, creative barriers are destroyed.

3.5 great | zaruyache | September 28th 24 | They simplified the death metal riffing and complicated the structuring more in an old Opeth (Morningrise/Orchid) kind of way, not so much gradually flowing through sections so much as hard cutting between them. So while the Pink Floyd prog and Tangerine Dream synthwork sections might in themselves be pleasant experiences, the structuring around them doesn't make for the band's most compelling material. Particularly because the death metal riffing has been stripped down a lot, the riffs we're left with aren't very hefty or memorable, they sort of just fill in in a lot of places.

3.5 great | BenCee | October 4th 24 | The death metal is decent, the ambience is decent, and the way the band stitches the disparate styles together is decent. Definitely worth listening to and finding out if this is up your alley.

4.0 excellent | Gary STAFF | October 4th 24 | Excellent atmospheric(?) death metal / progressive rock record - it worked really well as background music during work. Not repetitive, not just the usual prog guitar wankery, and the synths are super smooth.

4.0 excellent | Bedex | October 27th 24 | Man this is so so close to utter greatness. The sound here is expansive and makes great use of synths but also all sorts of instruments and tones, jazzy bass, fun rhythmic explorations. More than anything, this is prog. Some passages are reminiscent of the great bands, especially the halfway point on 5 which is basically Floyd. Every track without miss has at least one brilliant memorable passage. The issue is that interspersed between all this are metal sections which, while not bad at all, are often not integrated very well with the rest and feel like a rupture. The album needed to either find a way to more consistently include its harsher passages - which it does manage at times - or to fully commit to the prog, which would've removed a bit of the uniqueness but certainly helped the average quality of the album. By the last track, this is getting a bit old, which is almost saved by the final section, only to be a bit hindered again by a quasi fadeout. They really touched 4.5+ territory here, but in my opinion, did not quite get there. A memorable album I probably need a copy of. 4.1

2.0 poor | ajcollins15 | October 9th 24 | The newest album from one of the bigger names in death metal, Blood Incantation, sees the band experiment with their death metal sound by bringing in a wide array of 70s and 80s prog rock and Krautrock. Much of this album sits in a strange habit of having death metal blast beats and screams then switching to prog style guitar riffs and progressions. This ebb and flow goes on throughout the whole album leading to a rather dry and rudimentary listening experience. Not only that but the prog and krautrock. The idea is there, but it just sounds so dated.

3.0 good | really just a chill guy | October 25th 24 | In which Blood Incantation has a Floydian slip... heh heh. Ok, now that we got that out of the
way, my two cents: I do like the idea
of blending death metal with this specific brand of synthy 70s prog. There's something nice and
musty about the tones here, like stumbling upon your uncle's vintage Yes shirt in the attic,
still reeking of ancient sweat and weed smoke.
And the guitar and keyboard solos are tasty indeed. However, I still have the same gripe that I
do with their other albums: the death metal aspects still feel like "just enough." There's
no real wow factor there; the riffs are just heavy enough, just technical enough, just catchy
enough. Especially on this album, they seem to serve as mere bridges to the next proggy part,
because that's what we're doing now! It's a fairly entertaining album, but by the end, it just
feels a bit forced and disingenuous. It makes me wonder if eventually they'll pull a full
Deafheaven and shift out of metal completely, because how progressive would that be,
right??

5.0 classic | Chino smoking it up! | October 8th 24 | You guys should leave the idea of death metal band behind with these guys. Its way too hard to keep comparing them with Tomb Mold or Horrendous fe (all amazing bands, mind). This is "pure" heavy af progressive metal. Some riffs go straight post sludge too. There's also tons of bm drumming and blackgaze sections. Sure you get really nice thrashy and dm sections too. Did someone mentioned they still manage to go ambient and 70s prog rock...oh yeah right. Listens into this and it gets richer and richer.r

3.5 great | Robert Davis | October 7th 24 | I feel totally justified rating each Blood Incantation album 3.5. This is pretty solid stuff yes, but let's calm down and see what happens in a decade's time.

3.8 excellent | Erwann S. STAFF | October 7th 24 | Given their evolution, it was only natural Blood Incantation would someday release a spacey, Berlin-influenced take on death metal. Absolute Elsewhere delivers on most fronts (especially riffing and ambient atmosphere), but it does so by smashing "parts" together instead of seamlessly blending all their influences together.
