Didn't expect to vibe - because I usually don't vibe with Xiu Xiu. Rhythms are constantly engaging, melodies are potent, and even Stewart's hushed simili-Bowie delivery (terrible way to describe it I know) didn't annoy me.

I really am liking the new Xiu Xiu record due to the fact that Jamie?s vocals continue to get used in a context that fits his vibrato. These more noisy and industrial instrumentals just fit so much better with Jamie?s vocals than all the awkward pop styles the trio went through the 2010s. However this record still has a lot of awkward flaws that are hard to give this any higher of a score. For one sometimes the production is so powerful that it can swallow Jamie?s voice. Plus the constant use of these industrial drones that are sometimes piercingly noisy can be a bit much.
