Consistently good songwriting and lyricism with vocals that bleed personality and bring 'authentic' sounding country music into an approachable, mainstream package that certainly also has rock and folk elements. The main issue with this album is the number of songs. There are a lot of clear winners here such as '28', 'American Nights' and 'Pink Skies' but it feels like the rest of the songs are quite good but 3-4 of them could be trimmed off. It also feels like most of the guest spots (Mayer, Springsteen, Moreland especially) are fairly unnecessary as Zach seems to shine best when alone on a track. For me an unexpectedly great venture into Americana and truly a Singer/Songwriter effort that maybe is sometimes a bit too nostalgia/barstool worship but still shows off great emotion and catchy, skillful songwriting.

It started so well. The first third here is filled with great songs that even non-yeehawers (like me) can appreciate, but then the rest of the record is composed of aight, if slightly uneventful, ballads. Still my fav Bryan record.
