some of their most pummeling riffs since What One Becomes on this one, it'll still filter folks who didn't enjoy the improv on the last two though (a positive). closer might be the best song they've ever written

Sumac's newest definitely is their most defined and overwhelming in scale. Its main faults, if I must pick some, is that it doesn't quite find the balance between slow doom that tests your patience and riveting savagery of the faster moments. But just the fact that both are present and have domineering, engrossing effects, never falling over the edge of dullness, is quite noteworthy.
