As expected with that name, Samurai sees Lupe Fiasco and beatmaker Soundtrakk go for a Nujabes-like lo-fi jazz hop soundspace that carries Fiasco's tight verses. Compared to other Fiasco records, Samurai is short (30mins) which is both super refreshing as well as kinda frustrating. Another winner. Bump

I have not really enjoyed Lupe?s latest few releases. They always felt like they were pandering to a really exclusive club of hip-hop heads that never sounded all that good (or original). But with his newest release I can sense he is going back to his old self with these very simple but hypnotic boom bap beats. It really feels like he is heading to those same highs he had nearly 20 years ago on ?Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor?. Definitely give it a listen if you like boom bap beats with some mumble rap vibes.
