As much as I’m aware a few dozen people will have already road tested this album ‘in the bedroom’ today I’m still
claiming my release day listen as the ideal.
A forty minute run with the late English September sunshine glowing on my skin and the early evening breeze cooling my
sweaty brow, I could feel these immaculate grooves propelling my aching middle aged frame across field and unforgiving
concrete alike.

In Waves is the best 2024 club record, yet it's frustrating how better it could have been. Smith's ear for earwormy samples shines here, as well as its decidedly banging approach - "Baddy on the Floor" still remains a strong contender for AOTY. Still, most songs feel like they arrive too early, without giving said catchy samples enough of a slow-burning introduction to properly bang - "Breather" proving that the guy indeed has got the chops to hand over slow burners. A truly great record, but damn it could have also been an AOTY candidate.

With the prominent rise of house music in the main stream lately (as well as various electronic acts bouncing into the genre), the UK based electronic acts Jamie XX is capitalizing with producing a full house record. Without a doubt ?In Waves? is a hypnotic and evolving house record, dabbling in many shades of the genre as well as their more signature UK bass and garage style. Although the album is pretty solid while it?s on, I completely forget it once it?s off, plus as the album goes the weaker it gets.
