Although hitting the plenty same notes this exciting new wave of disheartened British punk-adjacent acts hit, and having a bit of an Idles pastiche attitude, Big Special in its UK periphery melancholy make some compelling observations drenched in jadedness and heartfelt harmonies. This helps to make the album stand out among their peers. Who knew that "what if snarky, but also with hooks" is a working formula. And sincerity to boot (give or take a few lines that probably sounded much smarter in their heads).
