At times this record is catchy and an ultimate earworm, at other times it has some of the most mailed in synth pop rock vibes that come to recent memory. Thankfully it leans a bit toward the former but at its worst it sounds like Taylor Swift music made exclusively for Pac Sun ('Tragic', 'In Your Bed', a lot of the second half of the album). All that hate out of the way, 'Calling You Out' bops, 'Back There Now' is insanely catchy and the shouted 'death-wish' chants just hit. There are a lot of great catchy moments and that says something but it feels way too shiny and the synth really just doesn't do much for the most part. Lean back into the rock Charly.
