| 4.0 excellent | Antonius | November 12th 24 | With producer Bob Ezrin behind the wheel, Deep Purple showcase why they remain the most prominent hard rock ambassadors of the 1970s. Despite the fact that Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice and Don Airey are currently in the seventh decade of their lives, they show no signs of stopping. They have recruited guitarist Simon McBride and carry on doing what they have been doing for 22 albums without sounding dated.rMcBride is no Ritchie Blackmore replica despite the fact that the groovy opening riff of 'Lazy Sod' may momentarily suggest otherwise. He brings a youthful energy and he is let loose to prove that he is the right man for this. Airey's keyboards sound as essential and appropriate as his predecessor Jon Lord?s once were. The rhythmic section of Paice and Glover is as solid and lively as ever, while Gillan's voice remains rich and unassailable throughout the record. The worst thing about =1 is probably its eeire name, which will hopefully end a trio of decade-long bizzare titles (?!, oo). Its such a wonder that these legends manage to deliver a high-calibre, 13-track record at this age. I only hope there is plenty to come. Recommendations: "Pictures of You", "Show Me", "A Bit on the Side", "Lazy Sod", "Sharp Shooter".

| 3.5 great | Mitch | September 2nd 24 | Hey, this is good stuff; Deep Purple continue to exceed my expectations. I figured they'd be toast without Morse, but just like losing Blackmore, they haven't missed a beat. Keep on keeping on DP.
