Maruja keeps proving they're one of the most intense new bands around with their sax-led artsy poetry post punk rock. I'd only say Knocknarea featured some more powerful tracks than this one.

An absolutely breathtaking jazz rock EP, which is heightened by the fact that this is only the bands second release. Everything presented here is so perfectly orchestrated from the very haunting spoken word style vocals to the droning of the synthesizer. The use of post-rock here really shines through and I can?t give the band enough credit for just going full force into this EP. My only problem is that these tracks really could have been extended, but for a 20 minute listen Jesus this packs a punch.

After a short introduction track, it doesn't take long for Maruja to brew up some spicy magic on "The Invisible Man'. A saxaphone and vocalist guide you along to a steady drumbeat and by the end of the track the sax has become incredibly anxious and distressed and the vocals are no longer calm; a great cresendo. Maruja definitely have a unique flair for instrument choices and mixes and that is the single strongest thing going on this record. 'Zeitgeist' picks up immediately with energy and is an excellent, concise package for someone wondering what they may get out of this album. If anything, the last two tracks make up about half of the project and don't quite hit as hard as the first few but this is an EP and makes me pumped for whatever this group does next.
