I found some of the more artistic moments on this album to be actually annoying - something I have never felt about a Leprous album before

Art/prog rock with metal elements here and there. Probably the first Leprous record that hasn't truly hooked me in some way or another. Their sound is becoming a bit too formulaic relying on brooding/atmospheric verses followed by booming, groovy hooks that show off Einar's truly excellent vocal range and delivery. Just feels like a continued standardization of their sound and it is distant it feels compared to what it was just 10 years ago.

Every Leprous release has been its own self-contained performance delivering equal parts refinement of the past and forward-thinking new additions. Melodies of Atonement continues this trend of refinement while exploring new sonic territories, merging the electronic art-rock of their past three releases with the dark melancholic prog of The Congregation, while retaining the emotionally driven approach they've always been known for. Essentially, Melodies of Atonement is Leprous' best-of-both-worlds release pulling the most prominent elements from the last decade of their career and presenting them in one seamless package to deliver what is quite possibly Leprous' best work -- just be ready for levels of strangeness not seen since the band?s early days.
