Use Your Illusion II shows a more mature side to the abrasive rock of Use Your Illusion I and Appetite For Destruction. Standout tracks like Civil War, Locomotive, and Estranged give a very epic feel to Guns n' Roses and they all also incorporate a piano into their sound, which only enhances the quality of the songs. The album still features the traditional rockers such as 14 Years and Shotgun Blues, but they tend to take a back seat to the more thoughtful songs on the album. You Could Be Mine is a completely original song on its own that shows a very different rock style from the band, and it manages to be one of the best tracks on the album. Any fan of Guns n' Roses or rock in general would be well advised to pick up this album.

It's far better than the first Illusion, many great songs, Estranged, breakdown, you could be mine,civil war, knocking on heavens door, dont cry r(alt lyrics), 14 years and the list goes on...It has also their worst song, "My world"

Much less interesting and much more lightweight than 'I'. The excellence of 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door', '14 Years' and the furious 'You Could Be Mine' are drowned by the dismissable 'Shotgun Blues', 'Pretty Tied Up', 'Locomotive' and 'So Fine' and utter crap like 'Get In The Ring' and 'My World.' 'Estranged', an attempt to make 'November Rain 2', is just long-winded and pretentious at 9:24. The album's most fascinating moment is 'Civil War': a band that was a walking civil war trying to write an anti-war ballad? Well, they give it absolutely everything: a 7:45 running time, humungous sound, changing dynamics and agonised lyrics ensure that they pull it off, but it isn't enough to save the album.

A perfect example of what could have been. If this would have been released as a double-album, it would have been arguably the most ambitious metal album of the 90's. With the "Use Your Illusion" albums being split up however, it prevents it from being a classic.

The songs define who you are because they will be with you all your life. This is a persona-defining album. One you remember. One you don't analyze.
Until this day, i have precise memories attached to each Song.

Estranged - 9 minutes long epic song.
Breakdown - the worst chorus, for the best song.

The capacity of human intelligence seems to limit the capabilities to expand upon any possible creative aptitudes. Indeed, if one cannot even notice the facets that the ingenuities around him are comprised of, how can he be expected to fashion a beast of his own? This inveterate sense of constraint is a great blow to the veracity of mankind's abilities. It restrains us and holds our minds to the ground below, averting any possibility of rising above ourselves to something greater; something not fathomed by the conventional mind. This concept of seeking to go beyond one's self, known as 'transcendence', is essentially a gateway to unlocking pieces of ourselves that can lead to some of the most elaborate and significant creations of our world. For many, this quest to transcend and form creations that were once considered unthinkable and overwhelming consumes life. Certainly it is rare to find such people, but when they are found, creative barriers are destroyed.
