The instant "Jamelia" kicks in, and I mean that moment where Daniel Snaith completely lets loose, the most important fact regarding Swim reveals itself: the album's meant to be bold. Caribou fulfills this most thoroughly in the album's midsection, from the honest "Kaili" to the experimental "Bowls." But despite the fact that this album doesn't always accomplish as much as it probably could, Swim is a hell of a smooth listen.

Another excellent album from the man formerly known as Manitoba. The more dance music oriented musical backdrops and the fact that this album, like its immediate predecessor, has vocals should increase the number of people who enjoy this album. Dan Snaith has come a long way from Start Breaking My Heart's humble beginnings.

Caribou has made a career off making artistic shifts: no two albums are alike but in spirit, and even with high
expectations there's no telling where a song or album is heading. He's dabbled in the folk-electronica, house raves,
baroque indie pop, always skirting the edge of putting down a beat we can actually dance to while retaining his own
sense of uniqueness-- no matter what influence is being skewed, a Caribou track always sounds like a Caribou track.
In this regard, Swim is no different, even as it proves a radical (if a tad obvious) artistic shift for Daniel Snaith,
and possibly his best yet. And you would swear he's been doing this dance stuff his whole career: from the opening
bars of "Odessa," Swim pulses with the glossy vibrancy of any number of electro-pop albums over the years,
ultimately defying all of them through songwriting that recalls the intimate personality of (much less ostentatious)
bedroom pop albums. Snaith spends as much time with the details as he does the melodies, drawing out the
minimalism inherent in house and amplifying each garish quirk to 11. Swim is an album that reveals itself with
as little or as much thought as you wish to put in. Also, it's great to get stoned to.

Subdued dancey indietronica leaning towards chillness. First two tracks are pure jams, and apart from closer "Jamelia" I struggled to find the same vibe in other songs. Some are meandering a tad too long to my taste, but each track has got enough melody to be interesting on its own. A great album to chill to, and I think it could be a great gateway record for peepz who don't really dig bleep bloops.

Dance-folk sounds as weird to say out loud but this delivers. From obscure samples, refrains in beat but each song sounds pushed while keeping all together needs to be in many artists lineup for shows. Get me an acoustic live version of this album!

I think this rating explains itself; "Sun" is, perhaps, the finest rock out jam live plus all you really need to say is "Sun Sun Sun Sun Sun..." to sing along to it. A fantastic album from start to finish and the prequel to his finest work to date.
